I like to call a broad-coil detector. These pulse inductions are marketed for indicating solid targets of significant size, usually fist size or larger. However, research has shown they are sensitive enough to pick up coins and smaller pieces of gold. Meteorites are also detected, even stone meteorites if the equipment is set up properly.
